Right now,

The Prime Minister of the UK,Theresa May.

The president of France,Emmanuel Macron

The Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel

The Prime Minister of Italy, Paolo Gentiloni,

and even the goddamn President of the European Comission, Jean Claude Juncker,

Have no biological children. At all. (H/T the Haus)

So there’s that. Our ruling class.

I wonder how many children Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has. Erdogan has 4.

I’m not quite sure but I’m pretty positive that you can’t get to any position of relevance in China if you don’t have children. You could only have one, anyway, but you damn better have that one.

ETA: I forgot to mention (H/T Jefferson )that Abe Shinzo in Japan is also childless. And his wife is some kind of socialite to boot. And of course until last week the Korean president was a childless spinster too.

  3. Childless people planning the future. Women running the defense ministries. Any Imams on the European Human Rights Court yet?

    Reminds me of a joke:

Heaven is where the English are the police, the French are the Cooks, the Germans are the mechanics, the Italians are the lovers and the Swiss organize everything.

Hell is where the Germans are the police, the English are the cooks, the French are the mechanics, the Swiss are the lovers, and it’s all run by the Italians.

  5. Modernity is a Gene Shredder

    • It only shreds some particular kind of genes though. The sheer mass of human DNA is still growing.

      • Aren’t those the “better” genes?

I know quite a bunch of 135-145 IQers via Internet, and they have the lowest fertility rate of all people.

Better said, it doesn’t cross their minds in the slightest to have offspring.

        He’s gay though, is he.

Since when did homosexuality prevent men who still wanted to join traditional life and culture from marrying a woman and having offspring?
If he has done nothing of that, it’s not because of his homosexuality.

        ****

Humans will be produced in laboratories, like everything else, 30 or 50 or 70 years from now.
I can’t fathom why this scares people’s minds as bad as it appears to, frankly.
Perhaps it’s by virtue of it carrying the implicit meaning that, well, you are just matter.

Indeed, we can’t be absolutely sure about that, and any surprise can be lying around the next corner.

        • My original coinage was “IQ shredder”, for Singapore.

          • If we’re arguing semantics (I don’t want to speak for Handle, but I suspect he meant IQ shredder), we might as well start a yeshiva /sarcasm.

Why are humans scared of lab grown children? Well, Gnon has seemed to laugh at those who attempt to exercise complete control over the selection mechanisms in history.

        • I doubt that humans will be. We may have the technology, sure, but we have the technology for frozen ova too and women don’t usually take advantage of it. The cost factor will still likely be higher than the bio-way, substantially, and most people won’t bother.

If there ever was an ideology straight outta Hell, then it must be this modern concoction of Feminism and Utilitarianism.

  7. How many kids does Abe have in Japan?

    • True, missed that one.

      • Doesn’t Jens Stoltenberg count? Jefferson just named another slant-eye. Stoltenberg’s son Axel studies Chinese in Shanghai, I just read, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t know them. He’s got the bones to get handsomer as he gets older, and could easily make that presumptuous bitch Weidel put out. He’s married to a brilliant, cowlike diplomat, so maybe he’ll give it a whirl or his son and the dyke can talk fluent Mandarin. She’s so annoying, could be the knockout of the century, but you always imagine she has to struggle against hint of moustache since she’s so depraved. At least in the pic you posted.

  15. what about america’s tech ruling class

    • You tell me. Bezos has 5 children.

    • And tech-minion class: The professional neighborhoods of Brooklyn (Park Slope, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights) are full of children, and those people are expanding outwards into adjacent neighborhoods.

      • Brooklyn isn’t representative, and professionals there don’t even have many kids relative to what ordinary middle class people in the suburbs used to have.

Overall in the US, the middle class is in economic decline and consequently middle class family formation is in decline.

” Middle class takes financial hit in most US cities this century ”

“More than four-fifths of America’s metropolitan areas have seen household incomes decline this century, according to new research that exposes the politically charged reality of middle-class decline at the heart of this year’s presidential election.

The research on urban centres that are home to three-quarters of the US population shows that median household incomes, adjusted for the cost of living in the area, grew in just 39 out of 229 metro areas between 1999 and 2014.”

  17. When Keynes dismissed long-rung arguments with “in the long run we are all dead”, people back then more or less got it that he thought like that because he was childless and stayedchildless, as he was gay. This is the main difference. People with kids care about what happens after they kicked the bucket.

Why did Lee Teng-hui get the top job in Taiwan at the time?

Because “someone” pointed out to Chiang Ching-kuo that he didn’t have a son (i,e. heir) and would break the dynastic cycle and allow Taiwan to further develop along democratic lines…

    for what its’ worth…

We live in the age where the religion of the élite (and, subconsciously, of the culturally lower strata of population) is nihilism.

So, when saying “we need a new religion”, the blog Owner should be saying “we need a change of religion.”

It’s they believe in nothing rather than they don’t believe in anything.

This is the root of what a brief survey of social media, or profiles in a dating site, display.

They shrink, to the point of coinciding with the present instant, their “happiness” and being with the selfie they are taking at right that moment.
This shrinking of the space and time of human being was described sumptuously well in Jewish philosopher Bauman’s Mortality, Immortality, and Other Life Strategies.
What makes one shake is one his last chapter fits the social media scene, present and coming.
Then you go check when the book was written, and it’s 1992 🙂

Meanwhile, the curve of prescribed psychoactive drugs and % of people who hammer on their being happy in their Internet profiles proceed in parallel…
